I remember my first time was pretty unnerving, and I didn't actually even end up playing with anyone, but I did get comfortable enough to play on my second trip. I've now been 7 or 8 times and had some amazing experiences.
I would just recommend wandering around, getting yourself familiar with the sights, sounds, and smells, and try to get comfortable. Don't pressure yourself into playing, and don't let others pressure you either. If you are looking for a quieter experience, go during the day (like noon), although the crowd is also generally a little older at that time too (if you like that kind of thing). Evenings are louder and more packed, but have a younger crowd (and women, too, unless it's Friday).
Hope that helps a little! I'm going to try to visit this Saturday, probably in the late afternoon, so if you want someone to go with, that is always a fun option.
