Today upon entering SW my driver's license was scanned. Can someone explain to me how the collected personal ID is managed? Is my info being stored? What procedures are in place to protect my information? Ironically the old way gave me more comfort as I believed my information was well protected. Thanks in advance.

If you’re worried about your driver's license being scanned, you could always use your passport. Pretty sure the scanner can't recognize MZR Barcodes on passports since it only reads OCR barcodes on IDs.
So after not being scanned, the only option is to have your name written on the receipt. Not sure how long they keep those hard-copy receipts, but I heard the scanner tech only holds your info for 30 days unless it gets flagged for security or scanned again.
It looks like a PatronScan system, so it’ll read passports as well. I recognize it from somewhere else I go and they use it as well.
Your ID when scanned is sent to a secure encrypted cloud server. The information is stored for 21 days(Alberta law) unless you’re flagged for any reason. It would then be held indefinitely to ensure anyone flagged does not return.
