I've seen lots of people complaining now. Perhaps I'll do a post for the flip side.

I agree with leaving a form of ID. there has now been several incidents of vandalism on some of the rooms. And for check outs this is needed so responsible parties can be held accountable.

Everyone wants the had apples removed and banned. Saturday being the busiest it's very difficult for staff to keep track .  Producing ID will enable staff to pin point who it is upon complaints. And be able to establish a TRUE ban list to keep those not wanted out.

An ID scan system (the type every bar in Edmonton used) costs several thousands to acquire. If anyone remembers. There has been talk about memberships before. And again. Everyone was complaining. "discretion". While being discrete in this lifestyle is always respected. Safety and making this a welcoming environment for EVERYONE should be a top priority.

Just my two cents

I like that they're thinking to address the problem clientele. I see a lot of complaints from patrons that solely pertain to infrastructure and cleanliness, and how those should be improved so women will like it more. Which.... Yeah, bringing more women will exaxerbate the other problem, which is weird pushy straight guys. If that clientele goes unaddressed, the problems will get worse.  So it's good to see idea being put forward. I also think they should get a breathalyzer system before getting an ID scan system. I was there recently and a dude was wandering the hallway smelling like a bottle depot. No way he should have been let in. Sobriety checks at the door will probably help curb problem behaviour

@luv2peg87 next time if that happens notify staff. That's a ZERO tolerance for alcohol. I know for a fact. If someone's like that Jim has an immediate removal policy. It can't be enforced if staff isnt told

This is a very simple soloution

1. create a simple scanner mask.  you basically slide the id into the mask, and then place it on the scanner and it blacks out the most important, and irrelivant information on the license.  This provides SW with the ablity to identify problem patrons, and still protects the critical information contained on the ID.

If an ID with photo is all that is required can I use my Costco card??  The example by bisaskcouple  still gives up more personal ID than I am comfortable with.

I have had my identity stolen once and it took me years to clear my name from all the damage it caused me and until sw finds a different solution then leaving my government approved identification I will not be attending. I will get a form of ID card or registration or something like that but for one will definitely not be leaving my ID with anyone.
I completely agree with the fact that changes need to be made to prevent bad things from happening and sw being able to protect themselves and being able to start a banned list but until another solution is provided that doesn’t jeopardize my privacy I will remain away so hopefully it doesn’t take to long because I do enjoy my occasional visit and always enjoy meeting new people.

@7inchwondercock staff let the guy in. There's no way they didn't smell the booze off of him

Perhaps he brought the booze in with him and didn’t smell when coming in.

🙄  You can add my name to the ones who won't be coming to SW again under these circumstances.

I also wanted to say that if customers are allowed into SW with hidden products, then why not go the whole hog and frisk them, similar to what the police would do, lets not stop at putting their private lives/reputation at stake, lets humiliate them at the entrance area also!

I know better than to raise to much concerns over this, fact is there has been many changes to the club over the years. It’s happening and that is the way it goes. Nothing anyone can do about it..atleast we still have a club.

I guess the confusion lay in more of the unanswered part of how the storage of ID is processed. Every gay men’s bathhouse In North America takes your ID these days so.. it’s not really unusual. Some actually for a small fee will wave your ID from processing into a data base but still kept in the lock box. This helps for buisness people who live a little more high profile lifestyle and want to stay a little secretive and that is part of life. We all have boundary’s..

some of it has to do with over charges and other things.. crimes etc.. sadly people ruin things for other people. It’s just a fact of life people have to understand from a management perspective.

I guess if you read this Jim. Would it be okay If it’s just my ID tossed into the lock box. Then obtain it upon checkout.  I been to other places in the US and this is kinda how they do things.. I come only on Fridays not Saturdays but I assume it will be all just one way eventually

a person still retains their privacy this way. And it keeps some people in line as they’re still held accountable if there is a problem or additional payment for over stays etc..

your considerations of some of the older supporters of the club are appreciated. I been coming there personally over ten years and respect the place and the fellow gay members who have been costumers the past couple decades

Thanks.

No for this discussion. I do wish to reiterate that Jim is only asking for IDs mandatory on Saturdays which are the busiest days of the week and unfortunately being so busy that's when incidents happen. This way Saturdays are a lot safer for everybody. And as for turning over ID for room rentals, I 100% agree with that because there have also been incidents of people damaging TVs, rippings mattresses, damaging doors. If the ID is turned over when they go to check the room then they have a way of tracking and or making the people who are destroying the place accountable for damages. Eventually IDs will be compulsory for everything but for now it's just room rentals and Saturday evenings. I personally have been coming here for 8 years and I have no problem turning over my ID.   For those who don't agree with the ID, would you rather have Saturdays with all the bad apples continuing to come and everybody getting turned off because too many stalkers too many creepers too many people who don't know what no means. Or even better would someone like to come in on say a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday but they can't get a room because the room is damaged. Come on people let's just support him

If Steamworks just reverted back to a bath house for gay men only a lot of these issues would be resolved.

*sigh*

@fundawg you might be right about that… but that would be too bad for the ladies that actually enjoy going there, including myself 😅
